The Sims: Makin’ Magic Cooking and Spellcrafting

This little guide is destined to help your Sims in their journey through the path of magic. Here you will find lists of ingredients, discover how to obtain them, learn cooking and spell recipes and find out which purpose serve certain new objects.

Hints and tips will give you some precious information about spellcasting, quest and MagiCoins, and you can also find a tutorial about dueling in the Magic Arena.

Cooking Ingredients

	Baking Mix Buy it in Magic Town from the Gypsy Clerk for $10.		Butter Buy it in Magic Town from the Gypsy Clerk for $20 or use the Butter Churn to make your own.
	Elderberries You can buy them in Magic Town from the Gypsy Clerk for $15, or you can choose to buy sprigs for $30 and grow them in your backyard.		Grapes You can buy them in Magic Town from the Gypsy Clerk for $30, or you can choose to buy sprigs for $60 and grow them in your backyard.
	Honey You can buy in in Magic Town from the Gypsy Clerk for $20, or you can harvest it yourself with the Wax’n’Honey Maker. Two harvests will allow you to collect the honey.		Picked Carrots Buy the seeds in Old Town from a Produce Store for $25, plant them in your backyard and harvest them.
	Sugar Buy it in MagicTown from the Gypsy Clerk for $8.

Cooking Tools

	A Sim’s Guide to Cooking Cost: $89 This is your family cookbook. All your recipes will be listed here, along with their ingredients. Keep it handy by the oven.
	Standard Plus Brick Oven for Bakers Cost: $899 You can’t bake without an oven. Add your ingredients first and then bake them, it’s that simple.
	Old-Fashioned Butter Churn Cost: $447 Home made fresh butter everyday! Why buy it when you can make it? You can add the butter to your inventory to use in baking or spell recipes, and you can even sell it for some profit right out of the Churn.
	A Pressing Feeling Cost: $599 Make your nectar the old fashion way: add your ingredients and then dance and stomp arround in the barrel. You can add nectar to your inventory or store it in the wine bar for later use.
	Taste of the Vine Nectar Bar Cost: $899 Your handy nectar storage. The bottles will be visible as you store them: red, purple and yellow labels for elderberry, grape and honey nectar respectively.
	Wax’n’Honey Maker Cost: $875 Harvest your own honey and beeswax from your own beehive. Sell them for profit or place them in your inventory for spell and baking needs. One harvest is enough for beeswax, but honey requires two harvests.

Baked goods can’t be sold or placed in your inventory, but they will surely make a good meal for everyone in the house.

The Magic Tart and Magic Nectar can’t be served or placed in your inventory. The Sim who makes them will eat/drink them right away.

Nectars can be placed in your inventory or stored in the Nectar Bar. The Berry Nectar is used to barter with one of the vendors in Magic Town.

	The Start Here Spell Book Cost: $159 Keeps track of the spells you have discovered and holds the recipes for all of them. This book is a must for any magic-learning Sim.
	The Start Here Spell Book, Version 2.0 Cost: $149 A modern and upgraded version of the original, this book has all the spell recipes you will ever need and keeps track of the ones you already know.
	Ever After Crafter Cost: $199 Add your ingredients and craft yourself a Charm. You can place them in any surface and use them repeatedly.

TIPS AND HINTS

Spells can have side effects according to the mood and skills of the casters. Before you start meddling with spells and charms, raise your Sim’s skills to the maximum and have him/her in a good mood before casting.

Merchant quests are given randomly, and different quests can give you the same item, so if you don’t get what you’re looking for, keep trying. Make sure you talk to Vicki Vampiress, Mara and Apothecary Todd in all the different lots. Quests may involve solving a puzzle, finding someone, delivering an item or playing a game with the quest giver.

Earn your MagiCoins by performing tricks for a large audience. The more people are watching you, the more you receive. Green up fully before you head to Magic Town, then perform 7 or 8 tricks in a row on the same object.

Keep in mind that the success of the tricks performed on the standard stage (levitation trick, swords trick and chopped woman trick) depends on your Mechanical skill, while the trick table and the mystical stage rely on your logical skill.

DUELING

Before beginning a duel, it’s important to learn how dueling works. Dueling is not based on your sim’s skills at all. It’s a puzzle game instead, much like “rock paper scissors”.

There are five colors of spells. Each of them wins against two colors, loses to another two colors and always ties with itself.

When you begin a duel, a spell color will be taken away. You will then have to play with the remaining colors during four rounds and win the most rounds you can. The color being cast will flash on the respective color sphere, so pay attention. Plan ahead, have the following chart handy, pause if needed and waste no time in casting your spell or your sim will choose randomly what to cast.
