Embark on a fantastic journey following the same path as the Fellowship in the book. Play as Frodo, Aragorn, or Gandalf the Grey as you take the One Ring closer to its destination, while exploring the wilds of Middle-earth from the peaceful Shire to the lands of Mordor.
You start out as Frodo Baggins in the cosy comfort of his home, Bag End. You must prepare to leave the Shire and sell Bag End to the Sackville-Baggins.
It’s not easy being Frodo at all, especially when the Nazgul are around. The Ring Wraiths will come for him, and the only way to distract these Black Riders is by sneaking around and throw stones to the opposite site of where Frodo is, that will send them in the noise’s direction. If Frodo gets caught, the game is over. However, if there are other types on enemies around, Frodo can try to sneak or use the One Ring and become invisible. The use of the Ring will cause Frodo to become corrupted (the Purity Meter bar will gradually turn green), but this can be balanced by performing good deeds or by resting at camp sites.
You will live the story as it is told in the book. You will encounter Tom Bombadil just in time to save Merry and Pippin from being eaten by that horrible tree, and you will have to find some water lillies as a gift for the lovely Goldberry. The trip through the Barrow Downs is dangerous and spooky, barrow-wights will be lurking in the fog waiting for the right moment to attack Frodo and his friends.
Things get a lot easier once you meet Aragorn at the Prancing Pony Inn, fighting becomes much more accessible when you have a skilled warrior with a sword instead of a hobbit trying to defend himself with a walking stick or by throwing rocks. However, once you get to Weathertop, the Ring Wraiths will come to give you a hard time, but this time you will have fire to defeat them with.
The Council of Elrond, the Gates of Moria and the tentacle monster, the orc ambush in the Mines of Moria, the Balrog on the bridge of Khazad-Dum (will you lead Gandalf to victory in this dreadful battle?)… These and many more scenes are faithful to the book, which makes this game a precious jewel, which all those who have read the Lord of the Rings saga will enjoy. So forget the movie for the time being, play the book instead.
