We were just blown away by the glamour and glitter in Superstar, and already EA and Maxis treat us to a new expansion: Makin’ Magic is on the way!

In this wizardly expansion pack (requires The Sims or Deluxe to play), your Sims are given magical abilities and are able to live with occult powers on a daily basis, weather to impress their friends, improve their love lives, bring mayhem upon the neighbourhood, or just to help in their daily tasks.

Cook and serve dinner or do the dishes with a snap of your fingers, summon a garden gnome to take care of your plants, and spend your free time studying the family magic book to discover more interesting prankish or devilish spells and magic recipes. Transform house objects into helpful servants, hypnotize your friends or get rid of that pesky neighbour by turning him into a frog.

Of course, there is always a downside to spellcasting. Spells can backfire if your Sim doesn’t have that magical “je ne sais quoi” and each spell has its own consequence, so expect the unexpected, be it lightning bolts or toad plagues.

There is a new area in your community with a Carnival theme for your Sims to explore. In Magic Town you can have a magic duel in the arena, or just do some tricks at a sideshow, you can interact with quest NPC’s on your search for that special new ingredient for a potion and earn the most powerful and difficult spells by carrying out tasks and solving puzzles.

Interesting new characters will be there to entertain you or assist you, like the apothecary, the vampiress, a snake charmer, ghosts and mummies. You can also build your own carnival rides, Haunted House included! New food carts bring your Sims a few tasty treats: popcorn, ghoul-ash and cotton candy.

Magic Town is such a special place that there is only one way to get there: by teleporting.

Some of the new objects available in this expansion pack include vine plots (plant and grow berries or grapes on your own backyard to make your own wine and nectar and serve it to your guests), faerie toy box, wand charger, dragon nest (you can hatch a pet dragon), baker’s oven, bee hives, skeleton closet (home to the skeleton maid), magic crystals, tea set, moving paintings (like those in Hogwarts), creaking staircases and a whole Mediterranean kitchen set. Oh, and lets not forget more walls, floors, roofs, skins and interesting landscaping items, leading up to a total of 150 new objects.

Makin’ Magic is the last edition to The Sims original series and the preface to the very anticipated release of The Sims 2. Released on October 28th (how appropriate, just in time for Halloween!) this expansion is surely out of this world.
