INTERACTIONS AND SPECIAL MOVES

MAKING FRIENDS

A Sim’s relationship to another used to be based on the “Make Friend” and “Make Enemy” commands. The new relationship system is much more like real life.

Making a friend is not an instant process of giving out a balloon anymore, but instead a record of the interactions of one Sim with another. Several positive interactions lead to a new friend, while enough negative interactions lead to a new enemy.

Relationships have two scores, daily and lifetime, ranging from 100 (worst) to 100 (best). This number will start at zero but once a Sim interacts with another, the daily score will change almost instantly.

Obviously, positive interactions will raise the score while negative interactions will lower it. A Sim will become a friend when the lifetime relationship between the two of you reaches 60. A Sim will be considered an enemy when the lifetime score reaches -60.

The big difference between these two values is that the daily score fluctuates a lot, while the lifetime score takes a while to change.

Start cultivating your friendships early. Be friendly and polite and others will act towards similarly. Friendships are the pillar for almost everything in this game. Study groups, money making groups, roommates, all consist of a group of friends getting together. Furthermore, it’s with the help of your Sim friends that you can create one of the most amazing lots in your community. (See alsoTips for a Successful Property: Roommates.)

Friends will also help you climb the corporate ladder and get the job of your dreams, so don’t neglect your friendships.

FRIENDSHIP WEB

friendship_webYour friendship web has changed a bit from what it used to be.

In the center, there’s you. Then you have your inner circle, composed of your roommates, and the outer circle, with all your friends, enemies and acquaintances. A green circle means a friend, a red circle means an enemy, and a gray circle means an acquaintance.

The connecting links are two bars that show the strength of a relationship. The length of the bar relates to the strength of the relationship. The bars are red for negative relationships, and green for positive relationships.

The default view is the outgoing relationships web (the way you feel about others). You can toggle the incoming relationships to see how other Sims feel about you.

In a more technical way, a friend is a Sim with whom your outgoing lifetime relationship score is high, while an enemy is a Sim with whom your outgoing lifetime relationship score is in the negative values.

When you open a Sim bio you will see a new option called “Sim Relationships”. Clicking on it will show you a menu containing your Incoming and Outgoing relationships scores towards that Sim. It also shows you how long your relationship has been going on plus the daily and lifetime scores.

You can no longer break a relationship instantly, it must change through interactions or decay with time. Daily relationship scores decay towards zero, which means if a relationship is negative, it will actually rise towards neutral.

When a lifetime relationship reaches zero, it will be dropped out of the friendship web.

Friends and enemies are the base to social interactions in the universe of TSO.

INTERACTIONS

One of the most entertaining aspects of The Sims Online is the wide range of interactions your Sim can gain and perform. Some interactions will affect your Sims’ Energy, Fun, and Social meters. You can make your Sim behave like you would or create a brand new personality with the help of the different interactions available to you. Be a temperamental fool who throws a tantrum as soon as you get the chance, or behave like a madman laughing evilly and screaming at the top of your lungs.

Using body language to express your Sim’s feelings makes the gaming experience a lot more interesting and fun.

If some actions are not available to you (grayed out), you or the person trying to interact with you might be playing with Parental Control enabled. When Parental Control is activated, that Sim won’t be able to chat or interact with anyone who isn’t bookmarked.

Keep in mind that all social interactions can affect relationship scores, even when they’re not accepted.

SPECIAL MOVES

Aside from the moves and interactions that every Sim gets, you can earn different ones by improving your skills. These are the interactions you get according to each skill level.

Skill Level 2 Level 4 Level 6 Level 7 Level 8 Level 9
Body Jazz Dance Flex Body Break Dance Back Flip Bench Press Pile Drive
Charisma Vogue Sexy Wiggle Kiss Hand Pop Star Tango Smoke from the Ears
Cooking Psych Cabbage Patch Sissy Fight Why me?

Currently, Bench Press is probably the interaction that raises the Social factor the most, so if your Sim is in need of a little Socialgreening, ask if someone can do a Bench Press for you.

According to the number of Sims who have befriended you (incoming friendships) on your Friendship Web, you get extra interactions to use.
