MAKING MONEY AND JOB OBJECTS

JOB OBJECTS

Job Objects are those you can use to make money at the cost of your skills. Some of these objects require the help of other players, while others you can use by yourself.

Job Object Skill Involved
Single User
Preserves Maker Cooking
Gnome workbench Mechanical
Telemarketing phone Charisma
Potion table Logic
Chalkboard Logic
Typewriter Creativity
Easel Creativity
Piñata Body
Multi User
Core Business Unit Mechanical, Body and Logic
Tomb Hunters of the Lost Llama Logic and Charisma
Concessione di Pizza Cooking, Body, Charisma
Rock ‘n’ Roadie Portable Bandstand Charisma, Creativity and Body

The payment you get is based on your skill level (for the skill the object requires), and the number of people using that same object. The higher the skill your Sim has and the more Sims are using that Job Object, the more money your Sim will earn. Concentrate in one skill to maximize the payment you’ll receive from objects that require that skill.

In the screenshot above, you can see several job objects in a wonderfully designed lot.

TOMB RAIDERS OF THE LOST LLAMA

Most commonly known as the Maze Game, this job object requires a Charisma and a Logic user. The Charisma user will be trying to find his/her way across a maze without seeing it, while the Logic user can see the maze and will try to guide him/her out of it.

tso_tombhunters

The objective of the Charisma player is to inform the Logic player where he/she is in the maze. To do this, they will tell the Logic player what color is the square they are in and if there are any walls around him/her.

Then the Logic player needs to search in their map and figure out where the Charisma player is in relation to the exit of the maze. The Logic player will then give directions to the Charisma player in order to guide him/her to the exit. The payout for this game is calculated from the initial amount minus 3 Simoleans for each move used to get out of the maze.

THE CORE BUSINESS UNIT

tso_corebusinessunitThe Core Business Unit (aka Code Machine) is an interesting device. If you’ve played Master Mind, you will find it very similar, except instead of five colors you have three letters (A, B and C).

You need a crew of three Sims to work it. One person contributes with Body skill and picks the first letter of each code, the second contributes with Mechanical skill and picks the second letter of each code, and the third contributes with Logic skill and picks the third letter of each code. After all three have chosen their letters and worked their respective machines, the device tells the group how many letters they got right, and if all three letters are right, the crew wins an amount of money based on their respective skills. Currently the maximum payout for a player with a skill of 10.00 is around 200 simoleons. The best way is to let the most experienced person (or the person with the solution chart) do the guessing while the others just punch in the letters.CBU_chart

CONCESSIONE DI PIZZA

tso_pizza_ingredientsThe Pizza Maker is the job object to use for those Sims who aspire a chef career! The pizza-making station requires four Sims with four different skills to operate. Obviously, you should use the highest skill you have.

Each Sim selects their position at the station and then they wait for an automatically generated phone order. Each member of the team has a set of ingredients and they have to contribute with one of them while making the pizza. Ingredients are given out randomly to the players at their stations. A successful pizza requires dough, sauce, and cheese (toppings are optional).

tso_pizzaThe drawback is that there are different sizes of ingredients, and in order to make a good pizza, all the contributed ingredients will have to be of the same size. The best way to go about making a good pizza is to have all players calling their large ingredients first. If someone lacks a large ingredient, call the medium ingredients, and as a last resource call the small ingredients. If there is no chance to make a pizza of any size, you still have to use an ingredient, so burn the smaller size ingredient.

If the four players communicate with each other about the proper pizza size, a sizzling hot pizza will rise from the oven and the team’s wallets will get a little richer.

However, if someone in the crew makes a mistake, you will end up with a burnt-up pizza and will have to start all over again.

The Pizza’s base payout varies depending on the pizza size and optional toppings:tso_pizza_payout

  • Small: $60
  • Small with Topping: $120
  • Medium: $120
  • Medium with Topping: $240
  • Large: $170
  • Large with Topping: $380

ROCK ‘N’ ROADIE PORTABLE BANDSTAND

The bandstand is basically a game of “Simon Says”. There are positions for four players with different skills: two for Creativity (guitar and keyboard), one for Charisma (trumpet) and one for Body (drums).

Each player takes a turn to repeat two notes of a color sequence that starts with a single note and increases by one note up to a maximum of 25 notes total. The colored keys light up in the order they are to be played.

A player should be picked to write down the order of the colors (notes), and repeat them to the player whose turn it is to play. Only the current player can see the note that comes next, so communication is a must.

rockandroadiebandstandThe game ends if the Buzz Note (striped key) is selected, if you decide to cash out or id someone hits the wrong note.

Each note adds a value to the final song, so the base payout is the number of notes in that song. The final payout is calculated by the base song value multiplied by a tuning factor, which is based on the skill levels of the players.

MAKING MONEY FROM VISITORS

You can earn money from other Sims by placing objects on your lot such as the snack machine, hot dog stand, ice cream counter, soda machine and the buffet table. Set up a reasonable price on the drinks, snacks and meals, and other players will have to pay to satisfy their hunger. The money paid for the use of these objects is stored in the objects until you collect it.

You can also restrict access to certain areas of your house and make your visitors pay to get in (bedrooms with love beds or an indoors swimming pool with hot tub, for instance); all you need to do is apply a little toll on the door. But don’t exaggerate prices, because visitors will be charged to get in and out of the room.

Having lots of visitors pays too. Each day, you will receive a little extra money based on how many “visitor hours” you’ve had, so get people to visit and stay at your property for as long as you can. You also earn a percentage from the money people are earning on your lot by using your Job Objects.

NOTE: In all other property categories (Money lots excluded), the benefits from having co-workers with you will stop after the fourth Sim. This means that in a Money property, five or more Sims working on the chalkboards will earn more money than five Sims working on chalkboards in a non-Money property.

OTHER IDEAS TO RAISE FUNDS

Start by offering your services. If your Sim is mechanically inclined, you can charge a fee to repair other Sims’ broken objects. If your cooking skill is high, become a cook. The owners of a busy property may compensate you for services like cooking, cleaning and repairs. So if you find yourself at someone’s house and you see something in need of a repair, ask if they’d like you to fix it for a small fee (assuming you have the Mechanical skills).

If charisma is your thing and you enjoy making others laugh, set up a little comedy show. Improvise a stage, place some chairs facing it, place a tip jar nearby and grab that microphone. Who knows, you might make a little extra cash. You can also place tip jars around the house and expect some visitors to drop a few Simoleans in there.

Why not deal in second-hand articles? You can buy used objects from other Sims and sell them at discount prices. (See also: Open Your Own Sim Store.)

If you don’t plan on pursuing a solo career, you can always start a company with others players. Run a casino (but don’t forget to set the odds in your favor), open a restaurant, a wedding chapel, a nightclub, a boutique or a dating service. There are many career paths to choose from, so get that entrepreneur sprit moving and use your imagination to create your own small business.
